TALK STORY SESSION ON RUNAWAY AND HOMELESS YOUTH
Runaway and homeless youth are the most vulnerable and most overlooked group of homeless persons in Hawaii.
· Nearly half of Hawaii’s juvenile arrests are for running away
· Each year, street outreach programs encounter more than 700 runaway and homeless youth who are disconnected from their families.
Yet none of the state or county initiatives to address homelessness
are talking about runaway and homeless youth.
Hawaii Youth Services Network invites all organizations and individuals concerned with Hawaii’s runaway and homeless youth (including current and former runaway and homeless youth) to meet with State Homeless Coordinator, Colin Kippen. Help us understand the needs and issues. Share your ideas for preventing and ending youth homelessness, effective ways to reach youth on the streets, and ways to support youth and families to prevent runaway episodes.
What are the issues and needs and what can we do about it?
